Self Restraint Series

Made by physically impressing a piece of rigid silver foil over the artist's teeth, Self Restraint: Voice: Object represents the act of holding one's tongue to restrict the sharing of delicate thoughts. The pensive nature of its construction carries over into the function of the piece by forcing the wearer to consider each word carefully.

Self Restraint: Choice: Object symbolizes the struggles associated with choice. No matter the outcome or benefit of the choice, it becomes necessary to maintain the decision. This responsibility is shown through the wearing of the ring with the precious sphere inserted. The sphere has no method of attachment and relies on the attention and balance of the wearer to remain in place.

The cat fur pearls were constructed as a soothing ritual, each one rolled by hand while deep in thought. Though the process was soothing, prolonged wear in Suspended Thoughts reacts with the artist's skin causing inflammation and discomfort. Though wearable, the piece undermines its own calming nature over time. The first image was taken immediately after the piece was put on. The second image was taken after 6 hours of wear to document the skin's inflammation.
